The Ross operation is the operation of choice for children requiring an aortic valve replacement. It is associated with a low surgical mortality and late morbidity and does not require anticoagulation. It allows a growing child to have a near-normal lifestyle with a limited risk of reoperation for autograft valve or homograft valve failure.
