Opti-Trak, an automated haulage system for guiding underground LHDs and trucks, is described. The system was developed to remove personnel from underground and from dangerous working conditions. The vehicle is fitted, front and rear, with lasers for scanning a reference strip mounted on the drift back. The vehicle follows the reference strip and activates various functions, such as dump cycle, speed change, and brake check, on command from reflective bar codes mounted beside the reference strip. The technology is proven and is financially attractive. 2 refs., 6 tabs.
