Development of color-LCD backlight inverters utilizing piezoelectric transformer

Abstract

Two types of power inverters for color-LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) backlights have been developed using piezoelectric transformers. These inverters are very compact, especially in height, and give high power conversion efficiency compared with conventional electromagnetic transformer types. This new technology is expected to make revolutionary changes in small-power inverters and converters.
