Illustrations are given of cross-cultural preferences in the forms of psychotherapy based on differences in etiologic views and on cultural and ideologic differences. For a long time services of traditional healers will be needed in developing countries. Interim steps are suggested regarding the transition to Western-type forms of psychotherapy.
