Three of five patients with refractory myeloma were successfully palliated using a simple and relatively nontoxic regimen consisting of weekly cyclophosphamide in combination with alternate-day oral prednisone. Control of advanced disease in some patients may be associated with more frequent scheduling of known active drugs, even though these drugs, either alone or in combination, may not be effective when given at standard intervals of 4--6 weeks.
