The μ-cyano-bis[pentaamminechromium(III)] perchlorate and the analogous cobalt(III) complex have been prepared by a simple route. The complex behaves as a typical antiferromagnetic coupled chromium(III) dimer with a J value of 32.3(1) cm −1 . The EPR spectra of the complex diluted in a frozen glass or diluted with the analogous cobalt(III) complex have been recorded down to 3.8 K. The spectra from the quintet state and from the septet state have been identified by the temperature variation of their intensities
