Abstract

An application was developed to project UHF electromagnetic fields into soils containing seeds. The unconfined field (2450±20 Mhz) was effective in killing seeds in the soil. At a fixed energy level the toxicity of the field to wheat ( Triticum aestivum L.) and radish ( Raphanus sativus L.) was constant or slightly increased as the time of exposure was decreased. Thus, the energy requirement for a given level of toxicity can be met by substituting increased power levels for time of exposure in the range of 100 and 1200 watts.
