Let us be clear. This is not a book about physics, or even about a physicist. Yet the name Bill Gates, co-founder and chairman of Microsoft, is probably well known to most physicists. He is the man behind much of the software on their personal computers. He also happens to be, at 36, the richest man in America, worth over $7bn. He is arguably the most successful entrepreneur of our age. This book attempts to give a portrait of the prodigy and the company he created. It is a story with a single, simple theme – the intellect and fiercely competitive drive of one man. Despite this focus, however, I feel that the authors don't really come close to revealing Gates' personality. Perhaps no one can.
