Of the 91 patients 47 additionally received placement of radioactive gold grains or iodine seeds into the prostate. The incidence of positive nodes was 53 per cent in patients with clinical stage A2 disease, 17 per cent in stage B1, 29 per cent in stage B2 and 56 per cent in stage C disease. Pedal lymphangiography was shown not to be a useful staging procedure. Excellent correlation exists between histologic grade and pathologic stage. The surgical technique and low complication rate are discussed. © 1980 by The American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited BySieber P, Rommel M, Agusta V, Breslin J, Harpster L, Huffnagle H and Stahl C (2018) Is Heparin Contraindicated in Pelvic Lymphadenectomy and Radical Prostatectomy?Journal of Urology, VOL. 158, NO. 3, (869-871), Online publication date: 1-Sep-1997.O'Dowd G, Veltri R, Orozco R, Miller M and Oesterling J (2018) Update on the Appropriate Staging Evaluation for Newly Diagnosed Prostate CancerJournal of Urology, VOL. 158, NO. 3, (687-698), Online publication date: 1-Sep-1997.Perrotti M, Gentle D, Barada J, Wilbur H and Kaufman R (2018) Mini-Laparotomy Pelvic Lymph Node Dissection Minimizes Morbidity, Hospitalization and Cost of Pelvic Lymph Node DissectionJournal of Urology, VOL. 155, NO. 3, (986-988), Online publication date: 1-Mar-1996.Parra R, Isorna S, Garcia Perez M, Cummings J and Boullier J (2018) Radical Perineal Prostatectomy without Pelvic Lymphadenectomy: Selection Criteria and Early ResultsJournal of Urology, VOL. 155, NO. 2, (612-615), Online publication date: 1-Feb-1996.Wolf J, Cher M, Dall'Era M, Presti J, Hricak H and Carroll P (2018) Original Articles: Prostate Cancer: The Use and Accuracy of Cross-Sectional Imaging and Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology for Detection of Pelvic Lymph Node Metastases Before Radical ProstatectomyJournal of Urology, VOL. 153, NO. 3S, (993-999), Online publication date: 1-Mar-1995.Bluestein D, Bostwick D, Bergstralh E and Oesterling J (2018) Eliminating the Need for Bilateral Pelvic Lymphadenectomy in Select Patients with Prostate CancerJournal of Urology, VOL. 151, NO. 5, (1315-1320), Online publication date: 1-May-1994.Schuessler W, Pharand D and Vancaillie T (2018) Laparoscopic Standard Pelvic node Dissection for Carcinoma of the Prostate: Is it Accurate?Journal of Urology, VOL. 150, NO. 3, (898-901), Online publication date: 1-Sep-1993.Petros J and Catalona W (2018) Lower Incidence of Unsuspected Lymph Node Metastases in 521 Consecutive Patients with Clinically Localized Prostate CancerJournal of Urology, VOL. 147, NO. 6, (1574-1575), Online publication date: 1-Jun-1992.Oesterling J, Brendler C, Epstein J, Kimball A and Walsh P (2018) Correlation of Clinical Stage, Serum Prostatic Acid Phosphatase and Preoperative Gleason Grade with Final Pathological Stage in 275 Patients with Clinically Localized Adenocarcinoma of the ProstateJournal of Urology, VOL. 138, NO. 1, (92-98), Online publication date: 1-Jul-1987.Nissenkorn I, Winkler H, Servadio C, Melloul M, Lubin E, Idelsohn A and Hadar H (2018) A Comparative Evaluation of Lymphoscintigraphy Versus Lymphangiography and Computerized Tomography Scanning in Diagnosis of Lymph Node Metastases in Advanced Bladder CancerJournal of Urology, VOL. 136, NO. 4, (825-827), Online publication date: 1-Oct-1986.Lupu A, Petrovich Z, Corvalan J, Katske F and Kaufman J (2018) Teletherapy for Stage C Adenocarcinoma of the ProstateJournal of Urology, VOL. 128, NO. 1, (75-78), Online publication date: 1-Jul-1982.Ege G (2018) Augmented Iliopelvic Lymphoscintigraphy: Application in the Management of Genitourinary MalignancyJournal of Urology, VOL. 127, NO. 2, (265-269), Online publication date: 1-Feb-1982.
