Abstract

Thirty-one subjects were used for this study of hip motion and related factors during walking. An electrogoniometric method was used for measuring hip motion and a newly devised method was used for obtaining stride-length measures. Conclusions based on the findings are as follows: (1) The electrogoniometric method for measuring hip motion employed in this study was sufficiently reliable for experimental use. (2) Hip motion in the sagittal plane is positively related to walking velocity. (3) The stride-length/lower-extremitylength ratio may be a useful index in the study of hip motion during walking.
