FAIN s hypotheses on the ongms and spread of Sarcoptes scabiei are re-examined in the context of transmission mechanisms, host-parasite co-evolution, and the history of animal domestication. While the broad outlines of the hypotheses are stili found acceptable, changes in detail and alternative hypotheses have been suggested.
