When a neurogenic tumor is encountered, and this is usually unexpectedly, one may be at a loss to know what to do, even though most of them are amenable to successful surgical correction or removal. Any tumor derived from nerve tissue or its coverings may be considered a neurogenic tumor. Neurogenic tumors of the nose or the throat may be divided into two large groups consisting of, first, developmental errors and, second, neoplasms. The developmental errors are meningocele, encephalocele and hydroencephalocele. In the literature these have been called sincipital¹or basal hernias,²encephaloma,³rhinoencephalocele,⁴glioma,⁵fibroglioma⁶and neurocytoma.⁷They are most frequently referred to as meningocele and encephalocele or sincipital or basal hernias. These three conditions have in common a defect1e:T411,The meningioma is common among intracranial tumors and constitutes about one-quarter of intraspinal neoplasms. Although approximately 25% of intracranial meningiomas invade the contiguous skull, producing hyperostosis, extension through the cranium into the soft tissues is unusual. It is only with extreme rarity that the meningioma gives rise to metastases.^*Rare ectopic meningiomas have been reported in various sites, including orbit,³glabella and bridge of nose,⁴and frontal and maxillary paranasal sinuses.† Meningiomas arising in the skin and subcutis are extremely rare. The first case was described by Winkler⁶in 1904. The patient, a 10-year-old girl, presented three raised, localized dermal and subcutaneous nodules located paraspinally at the levels of D4-D5, D7-D8 and over the right kidney. In two instances the overlying skin was adherent, atrophic, and grayish-red, with central depression. The skin over the lowermost tumor exhibited hypertrichosis peripherally. In the subcutis
