Abstract

ADENOVIRUSES have been isolated from clinically normal horses and from horses with respiratory disease in the United States , 2,8,8,13 Australia , 4,14 and Germany.11The 1st isolation of the equine adenovirus was made in 1969 in Pennsylvania13 ; however , histologic evidence of adenoviral infection was observed in a foal in Colorado in 1965.8Occurrence Fatal adenoviral infections occur only in Arabian 1 foals , but nonfatal infections have been diagnosed in both Arabian and non-Arabian foals .Generally , clinical signs are recognized in foals that are 10 to 35 days old , and foals that die are less than 3 months old at death.8
