A Comparison of the Structure, Synthesis, and Properties of Insensitive Energetic Compounds

Abstract

Abstract The continued interest in improving the safety of munitions towards unintentional insults has led to a significant amount of research in the synthesis of new insensitive energetic compounds. This paper discusses various approaches to the synthesis of insensitive energetic compounds, theoretical modeling and correlations of structural properties that contribute to reducing the sensitivity of energetic compounds, and how synthetic chemists integrate theoretical predictions into the design and synthesis of new insensitive energetic compounds.
