Most visitors to Estonia will be charmed by Tallinn's medieval centre, where one can linger in an atmosphere of the Hanseatic Age. However, Estonia has some remarkable examples of modern architecture that date from its first period of independence onwards. The House of Parliament, designed by Herbert Johanson and Eugen Habermann in an expressionist vocabulary in 1920-22, prominently marks the emergence of a particular Estonian flavour in modern architecture, that deserves wider recognition as part of the international cultural heritage.
