Both essential hypertensive patients and patients with renal artery stenosis show a dose-dependent vasodilatation following adenosine infusion. This vasodilatation is sustained after discontinuation of the adenosine infusion in patients with renal artery stenosis, suggesting a potentiated mechanism for vasodilatation induced by adenosine.
