Abstract

With careful medical management, many women with congenital heart disease—even those in the highest risk group—can tolerate pregnancy and have healthy infants. Surgical correction of congenital cardiac anomalies has made a major contribution in this respect, although inheritable characteristics of the parental disease may still pose some risk for the offspring.
