Platelet and fibrin thrombi are prominent in many different forms of renal disease in which renal failure results from acute or chronic obliteration of glomerular capillaries and arteries. This observation has led to the use of antithrombotic and anticoagulant drugs in a number of different forms of renal disease, and some of the promising clinical results are reported in this paper. The paper also outlines and illustrates the similar pathological lesions which have led to the use of anticoagulants because of the prominent part that platelets and fibrin play in the pathogenesis of glomerular and vascular lesions.
