Subclavian Thrombosis Secondary to Transvenous Pacing Wire

Abstract

A case of subclavian vein thrombosis documented by angiography was treated with heparinization, elevation, and elastic support of the involved extremity to obtain fixation of the thrombus and allow collateralization to occur. Oral anticoagulation was continued for six weeks. No symptoms of recurrence have been seen after one year of follow-up. Surgical intervention is rarely indicated since the recurrence rate is unacceptable.
