SUMMARY Acute granulocytic leukemia ( agl ) was diagnosed in 5 cats on the basis of hematologic and histologic findings. The disease was characterized by severe anemia, the presence of primitive cells (blast cells) in circulating blood, proliferation of these cells in bone marrow, and infiltration of these cells into liver, spleen and lymph nodes. A “maturation arrest” of the granulocytic series in the bone marrow allowed a definitive diagnosis of agl .
