SUMMARY Microbiological studies were made on Louisiana bullfrogs and tadpoles ( Rana catesbeiana ) with signs of classic red-leg disease. A group of bacteria commonly found in the aquatic environment was isolated from the blood of the diseased frogs. The same isolates induced red-leg disease when inoculated into healthy frogs and tadpoles. A role for viruses, fungi, or strict anaerobes could not be demonstrated.
