Abstract

a scheme of oxidation of carbohydrate was outlined in which the first stages suggested were the esterification of the hexose to hexosemonophosphate, oxidation of this first to the phosphohexonate, then to the 2-ketophosphohexonate, decarboxylation to a pentose phosphoric acid and by a continuation of the process finally pyruvic acid, which would be com- pletely combusted.
