Advances and Trends in Logging While Drilling Technology

Abstract

Highly deviated and horizontal well drilling activities have been propelling the development of logging-while-drilling technology which is adopted in almost 100% of offshore drilling operations.Nowadays,most wireline well logging jobs can be carried out in while-drilling mode,and some logging-while-drilling(LWD) sensors are good enough to compare favourably with the same kind of wireline logging tool family.While-drilling telemetry,electric,acoustic,nuclear,and while-drilling seismic technologies have significantly progressed in recent years.LWD data are mainly applied to two aspects,namely geosteering and formation evaluation.Major foreign oilfield technology service companies are attaching great importance to the research and development of logging-while-drilling technology.Creative idea and strategy are needed for leaps-and-bounds development of China's LWD technology.
