A hydrographic and sand content survey was conducted in the new Yellow River entrance sea area in September,1996. It is shown from the survey results that the tide in the entrance sea area belongs to irregular semidiurnal tide. The current speed in front of the entrance is higher than those on either side of the entrance with that on the left side of the entrance being the lowest, the current speed is higher in the deep water area than in the shallow water area, and the current speed is vertically nonuniform with the surface one being mostly higher than the bottom one. The sand content increases with increasing depth, the sand transport direction at the river entrance is consistent with the runoff direction, and that in other entrance sea area is in correspondence with the tidal current direction. The sand dispersion range is as large as 500km 2.
