Abstract

Stainless steel has been gradually widely used as load bearing members of building structures for its good mechanic performance, but the lack of design code for stainless steel affects the usage of stainless steel. In this paper, probability distribution of the yield strength of three variety of stainless steel is obtained by processing their experimental data. According to the United Criterion of Building Structures (GB50068-2001), characteristic values of the yield strength are calculated. Based on reliability theory of structures, partial safety factor for strength and design values of strength for the three varieties of stainless steel are obtained. So it can serve as a reference for the design of building structures as well as for modifying correlate code.
