Robustness of topologically protected edge states in quantum walk experiments with neutral atoms

Abstract

Robustness of topologically protected edge states in quantum walk experiments is studied with ultracold atoms in optical lattices; it is found that environment-induced decoherence may lead to exponential decay of the edge states into bulk states.
