Guidelines for the conduct of tests for distinctness, uniformity, and stability of new varieties of Poa pratensis in China were drafted based on international literature review, wide germplasm collection, continuous 2-year (2000-2001) greenhouse seedling character assessment, continuous 3-year (2000-2002) field plant character evaluation, and wide discussion with specialists. The main structure and contents of the guidelines are arranged by following the Guidelines of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) that includes general technical requirements, table of characteristics, explanation on the table of characteristics, and a technical questionnaire. Choice of plant characteristics and example varieties are mainly based on the guidelines of UPOV and example from Japan.
