By solving the 2-D transient non-linear eddy current fields using the FEM, the dynamic voltage of a salient-pole synchronous generator at no-load is calculated, and the effect of damper windings on the voltage waveform is analyzed. The results show that the damper windings can reduce the stator tooth harmonic components of no-load voltage, but strengthen the rotor tooth harmonic voltage components related to the damper pitch.
