Recent years' discovery in the Upper Paleozoic of the southeastern Ordos basin displays great exploration prospects. Therefore, the study on provenance of the Permian in the southeastern Ordos basin is of great importance to confine reservoir distribution rules.Based on data of well drilling, logging and core along with outcrop sections of surroundings, the provenance directions of the Permian were confined by means of paleo-current direction measuring in outcrop sections, heavy mineral test, and marginal facies analysis as well as facies belt explanation. The study shows that the provenance of Shanxi and Shihezi Formations of the Permian in the southeastern Ordos basin can be divided into three directions which are NNE,NNE,and south, while the Yan'an region being the center of water catchment. The southern provenance of the 2nd Member of Shanxi Formation has a large influence over the northern area to Yan'an,whilethe northern provenance of the 8th Member of Shihezi Formation affects the area beyond the southern areas to Yan'an and the southern provenance receded simultaneously.
