Abstract

The field experiments were conducted at the Experimental Station of Soil Amelioration, Shehezi, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in 2000 from May to August. It is found that the excessive irrigation is not benefit to the increase of contton yield. In order to attain high yield and high efficiency of water use, the total water amount must be controlled in the range of 345mm to 380mm.The moderate water deficit in seedling stage, full water supply in bud and flower stages and properly controlling of water supply in the later stage of flower are in favor of the increase of cotton yield. The moderate water deficit can elevate the quality of cotton. It is concluded that the best irrigation pattern is 12 to 14 times of irrigation with water amount of 25mm to 30mm for each time.
