Eutrophication of lakes is increasingly becoming one of big concerns for water pollution at a global scale. In recent years, rapid economic development and increase of intensity of resource exploitation result in the enrichment of amounts of nitrogen and phosphorus in lakes, the degradation of lake ecosystem, frequent outbreaks of algae bloom, and more and more severe lake eutrophication, which make regional economic development and productive, domestic water safeguard confront with challenges at regional extent. All levels of governmental agents in China have put a lot of man powers and material resource in controlling lake eutrophication, but so far satisfactory results have not been achieved. Based on the review of studies on treatment and controlling strategies in the filed of lake eutrophication, main issues and limitations in current eutrophication research activities were elaborated, new ideas for lake eutrophication control considering location and classification of lakes were proposed as well.
