We present a novel and easy synthetic path to prepare ε-Fe<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>(∼90%) with a small portion of α-Fe<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>nanoparticles embedded in an amorphous silica matrix.
