Overuse of proton pump inhibitors for stress ulcer prophylaxis in Jordan

Abstract

The high frequency of inappropriate PPI prescriptions in stress ulcer prophylaxis for inpatients is a major issue in Jordan. Following the current recommended therapeutic guidelines of stress ulcer prophylaxis could minimize the overuse of PPIs in inpatient settings and thus decrease both the possible safety issues of PPIs and the economic burden on the health-care system.
