During disruption of rail transit operation at one or more stations, bus bridging evacuation refers to dispatching buses from predesignated depots to travel back and forth between the disrupted metro stations and the turnover stations to carry affected passengers. This paper presents a nonlinear integer programing model to best plan the bus bridging evacuation in both upstream and downstream directions along a rail transit line during disruption. A customized genetic algorithm (GA) with a specially designed mutation mechanism is designed to solve the model efficiently. Case studies are conducted to validate the effectiveness of the model.
