Abstract

A large number of compounds have the property of destroying the selective permeability of erythro- cytes, allowing the diffusion of haemoglobin into the external medium, accompanied by partial or com- plete dispersal of the stromata. Two principal groups of lysins can be distinguished kinetically. Enzymic or bacterial lysins haemolyse at a rate * 3:5-Dinitro-o-cresol in the usage of the Chemical Society, 4:6-dinitro-o-cresol in the usage of the American Chemical Society or, systematically, 2-methyl-4:6-dinitrophenol.
