Cat-Scratch Fever

Abstract

THE domestic cat has long been known as a carrier of disease. Unfortunately, perhaps, cats have long enjoyed intimate companionship with human beings and their households. Many homeless cats are accepted in homes out of sympathy, with no investigation or consideration of their disease status. The occurrence of a disease entity incurred through cat scratches in a young adult male has prompted this report.There are no reports in the English literature concerning "cat-scratch fever."§ It is a term first used by Dr. Lee Foshay,1 of Cincinnati, to describe lymphadenitis of unknown etiology following cat scratches.
