Abstract

SPECTROCHEMICAL analysis of the inorganic constituents of several tissues obtained from patients with cystic fibrosis exhibited marked differences when compared with similar specimens taken from healthy controls.1 The concentration of sodium and potassium in nails and hair was elevated in the children with cystic fibrosis, suggesting that this type of analysis might be a useful diagnostic aid.The purpose of the present study was to devise a simple quantitative procedure for the estimation of sodium and potassium in nails and to determine the value of this type of analysis. A secondary purpose was to explore possible genetic applications. Cystic fibrosis . . .
