FOR many years crcatinine clearance has been used as an estimate of glomerular filtration rate. In 1926 Rehberg1 first suggested that exogenous creatinine clearance could be used for this purpose. Shannon,2 however, in 1935, demonstrated exogenous creatinine clearance at high plasma levels of creatinine to be greater than inulin, because of tubular excretion of some creatinine at these high levels.
