A novel one-step solvothermal process has been developed for the preparation of actived yttrium oxysulfide phosphor in ethylenediamine solvent at through a reaction of yttrium oxide, europium oxide, and sulfur powder. The products were characterized by X-ray diffraction, photoluminescence, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques. Upon UV excitation, intense red characteristic emission was observed in this phosphor. SEM revealed that the as-prepared product grains were olivelike, and that their average size was about in diameter. Luminescent properties and possible reaction process of this phosphor were also investigated.
