A 4-(naphthalen-1-ylethynyl) aniline appended rhodamine based fluorescent chemosensor ‘<bold>NAP-RD</bold>’ is synthesized which undergoes through bond energy transfer in the presence of Sn<sup>2+</sup> ions in mixed aqueous media.
