Abstract

This research-project includes the development and optimization of an energy management system for a parallel hybrid drive train. The EMS will control the energy flow between the components to achieve the most efficient operation of the total system. It is part of a government-funded research project, which includes the electrification of a conventional driven vehicle as a power-split hybrid electric vehicle with a double rotating electric machine and a range extender. In the first level of electrification the original conventional driven vehicle will be extended with an electric rear axle. To operate the vehicle as a parallel hybrid electric vehicle, an EMS-strategy for a parallel hybrid drive train including an electric drive in combination with a combustion engine and a manual gearbox was developed. The EMS, including the load strategy of the combustion engine was simulation-based optimized to run the parallel hybrid drive train with the highest possible efficiency to ensure a minimum amount in need of fossil fuels. For the accomplishment, an existing Simulation model of a drive train for a power-split hybrid electric vehicle was used and extended with a manual gearbox and the developed EMS-strategy. For the optimization of the EMS-parameters, energy flow diagrams were generated and evaluated.
