SummaryPotential evapotranspiration (ETP) of tomatoes grown in unheated greenhouses in a coastal region of Cyprus correlated with evaporation from a United States Weather Bureau (USWB) Class A screened evaporation pan (Epan) outside the greenhouse. The best estimate of ETP during the growing period was obtained from the equation: ETP = Epan × (0.26 + (0.008 × time as a percentage of the whole growing period)). Yield was the same with amounts of water ranging from 0.80 to 1.40 × ETP(60 to 104% of Epan), and the same whether irrigation was applied at every 6.2 or 18.6 mm of accumulated ETP.
