Effects of Cotton Leaf Trichomes on the Mobility of Newly Hatched Tobacco Budworms (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)1

We observed movements of newly hatched tobacco budworm larvae, Heliothis virescens (F.), on upper and lower leaf surfaces and petioles of four cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) strains. This study revealed that pubescence provides a mechanism of resistance to movement of newly hatched larvae.
