Bullera tsugae and Malassezia spp., which demonstrated laminar cell walls, stained red to violet with diazonium blue B (DBB). Sporopachydermia quercuum, an Ascomycete which demonstrated two-layered cell walls, gave a negative staining reaction. The finely laminar ultrastructure of the cell walls of Malassezia spp., which was similar to that of Filobasidiella neoformans, and the positive DBB reaction suggest that Malassezia is a basidiomycetous genus.
