Abstract

Jordan (1958, 1962) reports on a study made in Westmorland during 1952-54 on the life history, behaviour and numbers of the Tineoid moth Coleophora alticolella Zell. The data presented here are more limited in scope and are the results of a detailed survey of the numbers of eggs and larvae of the moth during 1956 and 1957 in an area of the northern Pennines on and near the Moor House National Nature Reserve. This district has been described by Cragg (1961). Attempts were made to measure the numbers of the adults and overwintering larvae but without success.
