Abstract

A new system has been developed for acquiring and processing high quality induced polarization (IP) data. The NEWDAS development has taken advantage of modern forms of GPS, networking, and modeling technology. Receivers are deployed as nodes of a network wherever it is deemed appropriate and they communicate to a central processing station in a wireless manner. This flexible “distributed” approach allows for the use of virtually any array geometry, including both conventional and unconventional, fully 3‐D types. Several field surveys have been carried out that demonstrate some of the capabilities of this system. In parallel with the instrumentation and software development effort associated with this project, we have carried out an extensive 3‐D modeling simulation to help guide us in the application of NEWDAS.
