With no subject losing 2 or more lines of visual acuity over 12 months and no new safety concerns identified, these predominantly hemorrhagic lesions treated with ranibizumab appeared to have a better visual acuity outcome than the natural history controls of the submacular surgery trials. While the study is limited by few cases enrolled, the results suggest that ranibizumab is able to penetrate through the subretinal hemorrhage to affect the underlying hemorrhagic choroidal neovascular lesion and the natural history.
