Perforation of the posterior pharyngeal wall during or immediately after delivery produced symptoms of esophageal atresia and traumatic diverticulums of the pharynx in two newborn infants. Nasogastric tubes could not be passed probably because of cricopharyngeal spasm. Although traumatic pseudodiverticulums of the pharynx in newborn infants have not previously been described in the American literature, it is likely that the condition is not rare.
