Effects of pure TRF on male rat pituitary tissue were studied using standard organ culture techniques and chemically defined media. Addition of 40 pg of TRF caused increased TSH activity in both media and tissues, in comparison with controls. Under the conditions used, TRF seemed to stimulate the production of about 4 mU of TSH activity/pg of TRF used. This suggests that TRF can induce both the release and synthesis of TSH.
