The muscles participating in the respiratory movement are grouped into inspiratory and expiratory muscles, and each group of them are, further, classified into principal and accessory respiratory muscles, the former acting during quiet breathing, the latter coming into play during forced breathing.As to the human respiratory muscles, the following classification as shown in table 1 is generally accepted.In addition, the latissimus dorsi, serratus dorsalis caudalis and quadratus lumborum muscles are also considered to participate in the Table 1.
